Accessibility statement
How accessible this website and the TinyFingers Early Years apps are, and what you can do if something does not work for you.
Scope
This statement covers the website tinyfingers.fi and the Early Years editions of the TinyFingers apps: TinyFingers Paint, and TinyFingers Rescue when it is published. The provider is Kim Asplund – Halfsky Publishing.
Status
The accessibility of this website and of the apps has not been audited by an outside expert. This statement is our own review: we checked the website with automated tests, and the app by reading its source code, which the Early Years edition shares with the home version. We claim no WCAG conformance level.
We publish this statement although the Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019) may not apply to use in early childhood education and care. We draw no conclusion on that here.
What works
Website
- Every page has a skip link, a language attribute and one main heading.
- Every image has a text alternative or is marked as decoration (a test checks this).
- Text colours have a contrast of at least 4.5 to 1 against their backgrounds (a test checks this).
- Links and the language menu are ordinary HTML elements and show a visible focus outline.
- Pages adapt to a phone’s width and can be zoomed.
- The one animation, on the video play button, respects the reduced-motion setting.
Apps
- The Adults menu and the number check are dialogs with a title that a screen reader can announce. While the check is open, the menu underneath is made inert.
- The switches and the choice groups in the Adults menu are marked as switches and radio groups, with their state.
- The toolbar buttons (stamps, eraser, clear) have text names in the app’s language.
- The PIN pad of the dedicated-device mode is a labelled dialog, and its delete key and digit counter have text names.
These are statements about the source code. We have not yet tested the apps with VoiceOver, TalkBack or Narrator.
What is not accessible, and why
Website
- Video. The promo video is played from YouTube. We have not checked its captions or audio description. The page text describes the app in writing. (WCAG 1.2.2, 1.2.5)
- No user testing. We have not tested the website with screen readers or with disabled users.
Apps
- Painting. Painting is visual and touch-based by design. The canvas has no text alternative and needs touch, a pen or a mouse. The app is meant to be used together with an adult. (WCAG 1.1.1)
- Crayons. The crayon colours are buttons for screen readers, but they cannot be reached with the keyboard, and their names are always in English (for example “Red crayon”), whatever the app’s language. (WCAG 2.1.1)
- Number check. The adult check asks for taps on four numbers in order. The app reacts to touch and mouse presses only, not to keyboard activation, and the check closes after 8 seconds without a tap. In the dedicated-device mode an adult can set a PIN that replaces the number check. (WCAG 2.1.1, 2.2.1)
- Zoom. Pinch zoom is switched off in the app’s page settings. (WCAG 1.4.4)
- Small text. On screens lower than 440 pixels (a small phone held sideways) the label of the Adults button shrinks to 9 pixels, and to 8 pixels below 340 pixels. (WCAG 1.4.4)
- Motion. The ripples and sparkles while painting do not follow the device’s reduced-motion setting. Only the shake of the PIN pad does.
Getting the content another way
All information about the apps is written on this website, in Finnish, Swedish and English.
The painting itself has no other form. If a child cannot use the app as it is, write to us and tell us what is needed, and we will look at what can be done.
Did you find a problem?

Supervision
The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom supervises the accessibility requirements in Finland. If you reported a problem and are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact Traficom. We make no statement here about whether those requirements apply to this website or the apps.
